  6. Archbishop Usher at 4004 BC). This belief,
  7. millenarianism, also called chiliasm (from
  8. the Greek for 1,000), was widespread in the
  9. early days of Christianity. As hopes were
  10. disappointed, belief in the imminence of the
  11. second coming tended to fade, but millenarian
  12. views have been expressed at periods of great
  13. religious excitement, such as the
  14. Reformation.
